Meet The Super Human of Nepal With His Astonishing Ability to Memorize: Bijaya Shahi

Imagine the morning; when you wake up and you are blessed with some amazing supernatural power. You obviously would feel great to have such a power like never feel pain, calculate faster than calculator, memorize everything that you read or listen and so. Isn't it great? Of course, it would be great, but these things happen one in millions only. Medically, these sorts of abilities are regarded as abnormalities that a normal person never can achieve because they are not the skills that you can learn. For such powers, you must be the one in a million. Saying these things, it does not mean that such persons should be either regarded as godly being or compared with genius.
One similar case is found in Nepal too. A boy named Bijaya Shahi from Kalikot district of Karnali province come up in the media with his astonishing ability to read large books within few minutes. Reading a paper and memorizing it is a matter of a blink of his eyes. He already had a world record too.
Talking about his power; sometimes the most amazing abilities of the human brain are revealed exactly when things go wrong with it. People who have mental abilities that could only be characterized as superhuman (like having photographic memory, playing music perfectly after hearing it just once, or doing complex mathematical calculations in one's head, or feeling zero pain etc.) but otherwise severely disabled in every day cognitive functions and social interaction. đ‘ģ𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅. Even though you've never heard of Kim Peek, chances are you've heard the movie Rain Man. Kim was the inspiration for the character played by Dustin Hoffman in the movie. Kim Peek was born with severe brain damage. His childhood doctor told Kim's father to put him in an institution and forget about the boy. Kim's severe developmental disabilities, according to the doctor, would not let him walk let alone learn. Kim's father disregarded the doctor's advice. Till his death, Kim struggled with ordinary motor skills and had difficulty walking. He was severely disabled, cannot button his shirt and tests well below average on a general IQ test. But what Kim can do was astounding: he read some 12,000 books and used to remember everything about them. "Kimputer," as he is lovingly known to many, could read two pages at once - his left eye read the left page, and his right eye read the right page. It took him about 3 seconds to read through two pages - and he remembered everything on them. Kim could recall facts and trivia from 15 subject areas from history to geography to sports. Tell him a date, and Kim could tell you what day of the week it is. He also used to remember every music he ever heard.

She can remember every minute of every day in the finest of detail, and each time she experiences the emotions she felt afresh. That’s what life with Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory, or HSAM, is like. It means, in short, that I have this ability to remember everything, but that also means her brain has no capacity to forget. She was diagnosed with autism. When that happened, it was no great surprise. A year later She was told she had obsessive compulsive disorder, but her parents and she knew there was something more. And then they saw a segment on a TV news show about HSAM. Her mom recognized it in her instantly. From a very young age she would talk to her about things that had happened years before, right down to the back-and-forth of specific conversations. She always said: “Rebecca, live in the present,” while she’d always focus on the past.
